As part of preparations for the Eurofoot 2012, the Ukrainian government are using horrific methods to eliminate the stray dog population. It came to international attention when meat laced with cheap chemicals was being used for “street cleaning” to suffocate and kill stray dogs and the Ukrainian government bowed down to pressure from animal rights groups to find better methods. Although, PETA investigators recently discovered they are now using a mobile incinerator as Yuri Basyuk, an official in the town of Lisichansk, told the RT TV Station, “we put this incinerator on wheels and we are now able to cover large areas including neighbouring towns”. Footage has been leaked of the mobile crematorium which can be viewed HERE (Warning: very graphic content). It has been estimated that 80,000 dogs have been killed in an apparent effort for Ukraine to present the world with a glamorous image of its country. The government are even paying a bounty of 35 euros per dead dog in an attempt to speed up the program.

 The environment minister, Mykola Zlochevsky, made a statement that there would be a bill to stop the deaths of these stray animals and the ministry intend to finance the construction of shelters and a neutering program. Animal advocates believe these comments are just a temporary ban to quell criticism before Euro 2012.
